When it comes to bread in Vietnam, in addition to its delicious aroma and taste that never gets boring, there are also super unique and strange cakes that make many people “eyes A-shaped” and mouth-O-shaped when they encounter them. Typically, the super giant banh mi in Tan Binh district, Ho Chi Minh City is attracting a lot of attention from the food-loving community when reviewed by American Blogger Max Mcfarlin.
In his clip, Max shared that in Tan Binh district there are many banh mi shops, mainly selling duck burgers and roasted pork. Among the countless shops, Max was extremely impressed with the super large bread at Dac Hoa II Roast Duck restaurant.
Max decided to order 1kg of roast pork, 1kg of roast duck and 1kg of roasted pork to sandwich in the cake. It takes up to 3 staff members to help complete the giant sandwich. Layers of cucumbers, typical meat sauce, roasted meats, onions, and chili are neatly arranged and interwoven.
When completed, the cake weighed more than 5kg, making my hands tired. According to the male tourist, the loaf costs 1,260,000 VND, of which 3kg of meat is calculated according to the restaurant’s listed price.
He tried right at the restaurant a few pieces of crispy roasted meat drizzled with delicious sauce in a bun. Max shared: “The purpose today is not to eat the entire cake alone, but to buy it to share with other people we meet.”
After the cake was carefully wrapped, the American YouTuber gave it to a street cleaning worker he met.
The store, where Max bought the giant banh mi, specializes in serving roast duck and roast pork for more than 20 years.
The store staff said that the bread is just a side dish sold at the restaurant, imported from the factory of a relative of the owner’s family. Every day, the shop will display 4-6 “super giant” sandwiches at 4 locations.
If no one buys the cake any day, the shop owner will cut it into small pieces, give it to diners or donate it to charity.
Usually, customers come to buy roasted duck, roasted pork or buy bread and dumplings from the restaurant.
According to many diners, the duck here is big, rich, chewy, sweet, thin-skinned, golden yellow with a characteristic flavor from marinated ingredients. Diners coming to the restaurant can see many stages of processing and receive hot, fresh-out-of-the-oven meat.
